Enola, PA

Enola, Pennsylvania, is a quaint, suburban town in Cumberland County with only about 6,000 residents. As a vibrant part of the Cumberland Valley, the city offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and an enduring impression of small-town charm. A visit here is like being embraced in a warm, friendly hug. It's a glimpse of what life can be like when you do it right.

Enola was, and still is, a thriving railroad town. It was birthed by the Pennsylvania Railroad at the turn of the 20th century and still features one of the most impressive railroad stations in the country, Enola Yard. It was the largest freight yard in the entire world in the mid-1900s and is still a bustling hub to this day.

Baseball has a passionate following here, and Enola's own Billy Myers drove in the Game-7 winning run of the 1940 World Series. Betty Warfel hailed from Enola, too. She helped the Rockford Peaches win the championship title twice and has an honorary display at the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. (You might know the Rockford Peaches from the movie A League of Their Own.) Enola is still churning out great baseball players today, including Michael Morales, who the Seattle Mariners drafted in 2021.

Trains and baseball; is it any wonder that you can get some fantastic apple pie at Kristy's Whistle Stop. For more great grub and some mighty fine ale, drop by the Millworks. The food is creative and delicious, and a rooftop Biergarten is featured that'll knock your lederhosen off. The Cork & Fork is also a popular spot and dishes up some of the best pizza around.

Used bookstores are scarce in America today, but the town has a terrific one. Stop by Cupboard Maker Books, a bookstore and specialty gift shop that is a delight to wander through. You can even follow their very own yellow brick road to some classic L. Frank Baum favorites.

Have some outdoor fun at West Fairview Park. From boating to hiking to birdwatching, there's plenty to do in this fantastic recreational area. "The Point" here provides easy access to the Susquehanna River, the longest river on the east coast. For nature lovers, a stroll through the Pine Hill Arboretum is also a must, but keep an eye out for more than just trees in the woods. It's famed for bigfoot sightings as well.

The area has its share of ghosts, too. If you love a good scare, check out nearby Harrisburg's State Hospital, which was once a notorious lunatic asylum. And what could be sweeter than visiting Milton Hershey's ghost? The legendary chocolatier is purported to haunt the Hotel Hershey just a few minutes away. You can spend the night there and do some ghostbusting as well.

Enola also has some excellent services available to its residents, like Hammond Cleaning & Restoration. We can't clear out your ghosts, but we can clean your carpets, floors, and much more.
