How To Clean Your Rug Correctly

Cleaning Your Rug The Right Way

Cleaning Your Rug The Right Way

Wool & Cotton Rugs

  1. Vacuum in an alternating pattern to prevent crushing fibers.
  2. Clean using a light lather with a diluted solution consisting of Woolite (preferably) or laundry detergent.
  3. Dry quickly, but do not put wool into the dryer (cotton can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with warm water).

Jute & Sisal Rugs

  1. Vacuum or take the rug outside and shake it, to remove loose dirt.
  2. Try to avoid using liquids to clean, as these can easily become discolored and are not water-resistant.
  3. Dry quickly, but do not put into the dryer.

Silk & Viscose Rugs

  1. Vacuum on low setting, moving quickly as not to allow too heavy of a vacuum to be created in a single spot.
  2. Try to avoid using liquids to clean and use club soda to spot clean if you must.
  3. Dry quickly, but do not put into the dryer or dry with heat.

Nylon Rugs

Olefin Rugs

  1. Vacuum as needed to removed loose dirt.
  2. It's ok to use most liquids on, as colors will not run.
  3. Do not dry with heat or a dryer; water will wick to the top.

Polyester Rugs

  1. Vacuum in an alternating pattern to prevent crushing fibers.
  2. Clean using the same technique as wool, a light lather with diluted laundry detergent.
  3. Dry quickly, and do not put into the dryer.
